Chicago the Musical is set to take the stage at the Great Basin College (GBC) Theatre in Elko. The performances are scheduled for March 13-15 and March 20-22, 2025, with evening shows starting at 7:00 pm and special matinee performances on March 15 and 22 at 2:00 pm.

This American musical, which debuted on Broadway in 1975, features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse. Set in the Chicago of the 1920s, it is based on a play by Maurine Dallas Watkins. The narrative follows Roxie Hart as she navigates through crime and media manipulation alongside Velma Kelly. “It’s a sharp commentary on fame, corruption, and the jazz-age obsession with sensationalism.”

The original production was directed and choreographed by Bob Fosse. Although initially overshadowed by A Chorus Line, its revival in 1996 directed by Walter Bobbie became a cultural phenomenon. This revival holds the record as the longest-running American musical in Broadway history with over 11,000 performances as of early 2025. It also won six Tony Awards in 1997.

The musical’s score includes well-known numbers such as “All That Jazz,” “Cell Block Tango,” and “Razzle Dazzle.” Its popularity was further cemented with a film adaptation released in 2002 that won six Oscars including Best Picture.

Tickets for this event can be purchased online at Eventbrite. Additional information about Overland Stage Theatre Company can be found on their Facebook page.
