On February 20, the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) will hold its first Open Education Resources (OER) Professional Development Day, titled “Opening Doors: OER & Student Success at CSN.” The event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom on the Charleston campus.

The event aims to address challenges faced by students who delay purchasing textbooks or attempt courses without them due to cost concerns. Organizers say the day will highlight how open and low-cost, zero-cost course materials can help remove barriers for students, improve learning outcomes, and support faculty in designing accessible courses from the start.

Attendees can expect practical discussions and actionable insights related to OER use. Faculty interested in participating are encouraged to register at tinyurl.com/CSN-OER2026 or by scanning a QR code provided on the event flyer.

CSN is recognized as Nevada’s largest community college, with campuses located in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, and Henderson. The institution offers more than 180 degrees and certificates across over 70 fields of study, focusing on two-year programs and workforce training. Flexible scheduling options such as day, evening, weekend, and online classes are available for students. As a Minority Serving Institution and Nevada’s first Hispanic Serving Institution, CSN promotes an inclusive environment for its diverse student body and supports career advancement and transfer opportunities (official website).

The college also maintains multiple learning centers throughout southern Nevada to serve its educational mission (official website). Since its founding in 1971, CSN has played a significant role in providing higher education options within the region (official website).

Faculty members seeking further information about OER resources or professional development opportunities may refer to the conference flyer or visit CSN’s official channels.
