CSN Connections week concluded recently, held from September 3-5 across all three College of Southern Nevada (CSN) campuses. The event, a staple for over a decade, aims to help students access various resources and support systems.

Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. James McCoy, who initially envisioned the event over 12 years ago, explained its inspiration: “Over 12 years ago, CSN embarked on a vision to create an event where new and returning students could get more acquainted with all of the things that will help ensure students succeed. The idea was to bring representatives from all of our Academic departments and our CSN student services to meet students where they are! The premise was simple—capitalizing on the idea that CSN students, like so many students who attend non-residential community colleges, typically go from the parking lot to their classes and then back to the parking lot. They are running from work, family, and community commitments. When on campus, they don’t often find themselves navigating our various buildings to find all of the student and academic services who are there to help them.” It was from this realization that CSN Connections was born.”

This fall’s event saw the highest attendance in its history. Students at the Henderson, West Charleston, and North Las Vegas campuses explored various offerings such as academic advising, financial aid, clubs, organizations, and student support programs.

Faculty and staff created a welcoming environment by grilling burgers and distributing swag. The atmosphere included music and community resource tables. Students left with both information and connections crucial for their success.

“I certainly love this event,” Dr. McCoy added. “But more than that, I love the central premise of what this event provides for our community of students.”

While CSN Connections has evolved over time, its core mission remains unchanged—meeting students where they are.

For those who missed it this semester, Connections will return in Spring 2025.
