CSN will celebrate Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Middle Eastern (AAPIME) Heritage Month this spring with various events across multiple campuses.

Activities will include traditional fashion shows and musubi giveaways with students, faculty, and staff participating to honor the cultures, contributions, and legacies of AAPI and AAPIME communities.

The main event is scheduled for April 23 at the Charleston Campus Student Union, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is organized by the CSN Multicultural Center, the AAPI/Middle Eastern Heritage Committee, and ASCSN Student Government. Guests will experience live entertainment, cultural activities, and diverse food offerings.

Interactive experiences will include calligraphy, lei making, and a symbolic “Cultural Tree.” CSN President Dr. William Kibler, Vice President Clarissa Cota J.D., and Executive Vice President Dr. James McCoy will deliver opening remarks, followed by ASCSN Representative Melyka Tanyag’s student address.

Entertainment will feature performances from Pong Lang of Las Vegas Thai Dance, breakdancer Hannah Lange, and a fashion show with CSN students and staff displaying traditional attire from various cultures. Food will be provided by local vendors Oming’s Kitchen and Mo’ Bettahs.

The celebration will continue at the Henderson Campus on May 1 with a musubi giveaway hosted by ASCSN Student Government. From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Student Union, attendees can enjoy a free musubi and learn about the importance of AAPI Heritage Month, which is recognized nationally in May.

Santhana Foster, Chair of the AAPIME Community Affinity Group, stated, “We’re excited to spotlight the diverse cultures that make up the CSN community.” These events aim to highlight traditional music, dance, and fashion while celebrating the ongoing contributions of AAPI and Middle Eastern students, faculty, and alumni.

Students, employees, and community members are encouraged to join the festivities to learn and enjoy the cultural offerings.
