The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) has announced the launch of the state’s first degree program in funeral services. This development marks a significant change for those aspiring to become funeral directors, embalmers, or funeral home managers in Nevada, who previously had to seek training out of state.
Cassie Gentry, CSN’s Chair of Health Related Professions, expressed optimism about the new program. “This is great for Las Vegas, great for Nevada,” she said. “It’s a career most people don’t think about, but it’s incredibly important. And it takes someone with real empathy to do this work and support families when they need it most.”
The program aims to address a gap in Nevada’s educational offerings and promises substantial career opportunities with starting salaries ranging from $62,000 to $63,000. CSN plans to expand the program further by reaching students in Northern Nevada and potentially developing a pathway to a bachelor’s degree.
