Last week, a large group of students and staff from the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) traveled to Carson City to participate in CSN Day at the Legislature. This event provided the students with an opportunity to engage in question and answer sessions with notable figures such as Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford and Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell.

The 73 participating students had varied opportunities during their visit. Some students sat on the Assembly Floor with members of the Assembly, while others observed from the Assembly gallery. Additionally, they were given tours of significant locations such as the Nevada Supreme Court and Carson City Hall. They also took part in a panel discussion with four registered lobbyists.

The trip was designed both to educate CSN students about their environment and to provide them with a platform for advocacy. The tradition of CSN Day at the Legislature has been ongoing for several sessions and is expected to continue. The event helps students communicate directly with legislators, thereby providing lawmakers with a deeper understanding of their constituents’ needs.

“CSN Day at the Legislature has been a tradition now for the last few sessions, and we plan on keeping it up,” stated organizers. “The more legislators hear from our students, the more they’ll understand their communities.”
