The Governor’s Office of Economic Development, through its Film Nevada division, hosted a special screening last week of the season five finale of Universal Television and HBO’s series “Hacks,” followed by a panel discussion on the workforce and economic impact of film and television production in Nevada, according to a June 2 announcement.
“Hacks,” filmed in Las Vegas with support from Film Nevada tax credits, has gained recognition as one of television’s prominent comedies while highlighting Las Vegas to viewers globally. Production representatives said that during its fifth season, the show employed over 1,100 Nevada residents, supported nearly 300 businesses statewide, and contributed millions to the state economy.
A panel at the event was moderated by Film Nevada Deputy Director Danette Tull and included “Hacks” Executive Producer Morgan Sackett, Universal Television Group Senior Vice President of Production Michael Swanson, and Film Nevada Director Kim Spurgeon. Panelists discussed local hiring practices, workforce development opportunities, production spending in-state, and long-term economic benefits when projects choose to film in Nevada. Spurgeon said: “‘Hacks’ is one example of how film and television productions can deliver meaningful economic benefits while promoting Nevada’s unique communities and landscapes. Our team works closely with productions to identify locations, connect them with local crew and vendors, and help ensure successful filming experiences throughout the state.”
During calendar year 2025 alone, there were 337 productions that spent $93.3 million in Nevada. Film Nevada provided assistance for these projects by helping them find suitable locations within the state as well as connecting them with local crews and service providers.
At the event, Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley presented custom “Deborah Vance Way” street signs to honor an iconic character from “Hacks.” Mayor Berkley also proclaimed May 28 as “Hacks Day,” recognizing both the show’s connection to Las Vegas and its role in presenting the city worldwide. Berkley said: “Las Vegas continues to capture the world’s imagination as a one-of-a-kind location for the film and television industry… The series underscores the importance of entertainment as a driver of economic development, job creation and community investment.”
The Governor’s Office of Economic Development works across all regions in collaboration with regional development authorities throughout Nevada on initiatives aimed at job creation and business attraction efforts supporting statewide growth objectives, according to its official website.
