Fred Lokken, a notable figure in distance education and community colleges, was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Instructional Technology Council (ITC) Conference held in Charleston, South Carolina. Lokken is a Political Science Professor and Department Chair at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), where he has contributed significantly to both on-campus activities and the broader educational community. He serves as a Senior Advisor to the ITC Board of Directors and has been actively involved in promoting online teaching.
At the conference, attendees watched a video celebrating Lokken’s contributions and were encouraged to bring items symbolizing his innovative spirit. The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents also acknowledged TMCC faculty and staff achievements during their recent meeting. Several faculty members received tenure for their excellence in teaching, service, and research. President Karin Hilgersom praised these educators for their commitment to innovation and student success.
The NSHE recognized outstanding faculty and staff with various awards for 2025. Scottie Lockrem received the Nevada Regents’ Outstanding Classified Staff Award, Dr. Megan Lahti was awarded the Nevada Regents’ Teaching Award for tenured faculty, Tara Connolly earned the Nevada Regents’ Academic Advisor Award, and Sophia Roman was honored with the Nevada Regents’ Scholar Award.
TMCC is also preparing for its annual Logistics Leadership Conference organized by the Frank N. Bender Center for Applied Logistics Management (CALM). This event will feature keynote speaker Greg Younghans from Novo Logistics, along with other industry leaders such as Scott Pruneau from ITS Logistics and Dr. Dorian Stonebarger from the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
Logistics Professor Brian Addington highlighted that this conference provides an opportunity for professionals to network and learn about innovations in logistics that are vital to Northern Nevada’s economy. Dean Amy Williams emphasized its importance for those in logistics and supply chain industries.
Registration is required for the conference, with early bird pricing available until April 1st. Proceeds will support scholarships for TMCC students pursuing degrees in Logistics Operations Management.
