The 2019 Global Climate Change Summit is set to take place on Monday, September 23, at the Joe Crowley Student Union, University of Nevada, Reno. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., featuring discussions on climate change impacts in Nevada and responses from businesses and organizations regarding mitigation and adaptation strategies.
The summit will host four panels: “Climate Change in Nevada,” “Public Sector Responses to Climate Change,” “State-level Climate Change Policy,” and “Private Sector Responses to Climate Change.” Participants include notable figures such as Nevada State Senator Ben Kieckhefer; Kristen Averyt, a research professor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; David Bobzien, director of the governor’s office of energy; and Adam Kramer, executive vice president of strategy for Switch. Faculty members from the University of Nevada, Reno will also contribute insights, including Greg Mosier, Dean of the College of Business; Lyndsey Darrow, associate professor in the School of Community Health Sciences; Heidi Kratsch, Northern Nevada horticulture specialist and associate professor; and Steph McAfee, assistant professor of geography and deputy state climatologist for Nevada.
Open to the public with a focus on officials and community leaders, registration costs $75 per person or $15 for students currently enrolled in the Nevada System of Higher Education. Registration can be completed online at business.unr.edu/GCCSummit2019.
