Great Basin College has announced the appointment of Colonel (Retired) John Evans as Vice President of Finance and Operations, beginning his new role on May 1. Evans has a notable background with over 22 years of service in the U.S. Army, where he managed large organizations and financial budgets, aiming for efficient operations.

His expertise in strategic planning, resource allocation, and talent management is seen as a valuable asset to the college’s mission. “His extensive experience in strategic planning, resource allocation, and talent management will be invaluable as we continue to advance GBC’s mission,” the announcement stated.

In his new position, Evans will lead Great Basin College’s financial operations, information technology, and facilities management. The focus will be on ensuring the institution’s fiscal health and bolstering its educational commitment.

Evans and his family have recently moved to Elko, Becky’s hometown. The couple has four children, and Evans is known to enjoy golfing, skiing, basketball, and coaching sports.

The college community is invited to meet Evans at an event scheduled on Friday, May 2, between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. in the Berg Hall conference room. This occasion will also support Mental Health Awareness Month, encouraging participants to wear green for the “Be Seen in Green” initiative.
