Hensel Phelps Construction has been honored with the grand prize at the AGC Construction Safety Excellence Awards, recognized for its outstanding construction safety and health program in 2024 by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). The national contractors group oversees the annual awards competition, which identifies and honors exemplary construction safety and health practices.

Additionally, 66 other companies were acknowledged for their achievements in safety and health management and risk control. Todd Roberts, the senior vice president of the association and president of ERS Inc. in Jackson, Mississippi, stated, “Through these awards, we are seeking to identify the most effective tactics companies are using to address and improve construction safety and health.” He further added, “By finding and honoring these safety and health solutions, we hope to encourage other firms to explore and adopt them as appropriate.”

Hensel Phelps stood out among 23 first-place winners across six occupational divisions to receive the grand award. Roberts explained that the awards include multiple winners because they span several divisions and categories, categorized by the type and amount of work conducted. He highlighted that the winners are chosen by a panel of five independent safety and health professionals from the construction industry. The final judging occurred during the contractors’ association’s annual convention in Columbus, Ohio.

Matt Curtis, Vice President – Profit Center Manager – Primary, Construction, Starr Companies, stated, “WTW and Starr are proud to continue as the sponsors of the AGC CSEA. It is important that we recognize those who go above and beyond to put their employees’ safety and wellbeing first.” He emphasized that “Hensel Phelps, and all the companies recognized this year are leaders in their respective fields as well as the communities in which they work.”

The awards are sponsored by Starr Companies and WTW.
