The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Board of Regents has appointed Dr. Jeffrey Alexander as the new president of Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC). The decision follows a national search and involved significant community input.

Board of Regents Chair Amy J. Carvalho expressed confidence in the appointment, stating, “We are proud to welcome Dr. Jeffrey Alexander as the next president of TMCC. As a current leader within our Nevada System of Higher Education, his experience, passion for student success, and collaborative approach to leadership stood out throughout the search process.” She emphasized TMCC’s crucial role in Northern Nevada and endorsed Dr. Alexander as the right leader for its future.

The selection process was managed by the Board’s ad hoc TMCC President Search Committee, led by Regent Carol Del Carlo. The committee shortlisted five finalists who participated in public forums before making their recommendation to the full Board.

“We were committed to finding a leader who could build on TMCC’s strong momentum while advancing the college’s commitment to access, workforce readiness, and academic excellence,” said Carol Del Carlo. “With his deep understanding of our system and strong ties to Nevada’s higher education community, Dr. Alexander emerged as the right choice to lead TMCC forward.”

NSHE Chancellor Patricia Charlton also supported the appointment: “TMCC serves as a gateway to opportunity for so many Nevadans. Dr. Jeffrey Alexander brings the kind of leadership and innovation needed to continue that mission.”

Dr. Alexander will assume his new role on July 1, 2025, succeeding Dr. Karin Hilgersom who retires on June 30 after nine years at TMCC’s helm since 2016. Under her leadership, TMCC has served nearly 20,000 students annually across multiple campuses and played an essential role in regional education and workforce training needs.

Currently serving as Vice President of Academic Affairs at TMCC, Dr. Alexander is recognized for leading instructional programs and strategic initiatives at the college. His previous roles include leadership positions at Pueblo Community College in Colorado and tenure at the University of Wisconsin–Parkside.
