The Nevada Department of Education has announced the events for the 2025 Nevada Reading Week, scheduled from March 3 to March 7. This year’s theme is “Color Our World With Books.”
Jhone Ebert, Superintendent of Public Instruction, emphasized the importance of literacy by stating, “Literacy is the foundation on which all other knowledge is built.” She added that Nevada Reading Week has been a longstanding tradition aimed at inspiring students to develop a love for reading.
Since its inception in 1987, Nevada Reading Week has focused on promoting literacy and encouraging reading among students across the state. The initiative brings together educators, librarians, students, and community members through thematic activities designed to foster a passion for reading.
This year’s events include access to PebbleGo by Capstone for students, the Nevada Reading Week Conference, an Author LIVE event, and curated booklists provided by TeachingBooks. These are in addition to celebrations organized by schools, districts, and communities.
The Nevada Reading Week Conference will be held virtually on Saturday, March 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., featuring experts such as Dr. Nell Duke and Dr. Ernest Morrell who will share insights into literacy.
The Author LIVE event offers interaction with local and nationally recognized authors like Bao Phi and Brad Meltzer from March 3-7. Participants can engage with authors through storytelling sessions and Q&A opportunities.
TeachingBooks provides curated book lists aligned with this year’s theme for preschool through 12th-grade students.
Additionally, Kaelynne Kindred was named the grand prize winner of the student art contest for this year’s event.
