The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will close its offices from Thursday, November 23 through Sunday, November 26 to observe the Thanksgiving and Family Day holidays. When a holiday falls on a Friday, DMV offices that usually offer services on Saturday will also remain closed for the weekend.
DMV officials have alerted residents that the week following Thanksgiving is typically the busiest period of the year for their offices. “Our first Walk-In Wednesday after the holiday will be exceptionally busy at our locations in Las Vegas, Reno, and Henderson,” they stated.
Laney emphasized using online resources to avoid crowded DMV offices. “The best way to avoid a crowded office is to conduct your transactions online whenever possible,” Laney said. “We have more than two dozen services available online. You can register your car, renew your driver license, and this year we’ve added the capability to take your written knowledge test or get a 30-day movement permit for vehicles purchased through a private party or out-of-state so you can drive legally before your registration appointment.”
In addition to online services, self-service kiosks located across partnered sites in Nevada provide an alternative for those looking to renew vehicle registrations without waiting in line. The kiosks print tags immediately for customer convenience.
