The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced that its offices in Las Vegas and Reno will remain closed on Saturday, October 15. This closure follows an outage caused by significant damage to a fiber optic cable in Northern Nevada.
Although repairs on the cable were completed late Friday night, DMV offices will not reopen until the department can test its systems. The outage, which occurred late Thursday, affected all State of Nevada websites and left DMV offices statewide unable to process transactions. As a result, all DMV offices were closed on Friday.
DMV Director Julie Butler acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the closure. “We know this is an inconvenience for many people. We’ll be working closely with our customers to ensure everyone who had an appointment Friday will be served,” she stated.
Customers with appointments for general services such as driver’s licenses or vehicle registrations are advised to visit DMV offices on a walk-in basis from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the upcoming week. Proof of appointment, such as a text message or email printout, should be presented upon arrival.
These walk-in services are available at Carson City, Henderson, Las Vegas, and Reno locations for those who had appointments scheduled for Friday, October 14. Additionally, new residents needing a Nevada ID for voting purposes can also access walk-in services.
For customers with drive test appointments, local offices will reach out to reschedule their driving skills tests.
