The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced changes to its operating hours for Las Vegas and Reno offices. Starting Monday, August 17, the DMV will extend weekday hours from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., while closing on Saturdays. The adjustment aims to increase appointment availability while adhering to COVID-19 health protocols.

Appointments remain necessary for most services, and customers can schedule them online at dmvnv.com. The new appointment slots will be available by the end of this week.

Despite Saturday closures, staff will continue processing backlogs and drop-off transactions on that day. Driving skills tests will still occur by appointment, though buildings will not be open to the public.

DMV Director Julie Butler stated, “We’re glad to be able to offer more appointments while staying safe,” emphasizing the importance of utilizing online services or kiosks when possible.

The DMV plans to introduce online renewals for driver licenses and ID cards in the fall. Approximately 75,000 Nevadans with documents expiring in 2020 may benefit from this service.

Governor Steve Sisolak’s extensions on expired documents are still effective. Documents expiring between March 12 and July 15 have an extension until September 13. Drivers aged 65 and older receive additional time for scheduling appointments.

Metropolitan offices offer limited walk-in services during weekdays without an appointment. These include document review, kiosks, movement permits, license plate surrenders, drop-off vehicle registration transactions, and inspections.

Commercial and rural offices maintain their current schedule from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., serving walk-in customers only without being impacted by these changes.
