The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is set to modify its current walk-in service policy. Starting Wednesday, July 12, DMV offices in Reno, Decatur, Flamingo, Henderson, and Sahara will accommodate customers without appointments on “Walk-In Wednesdays.” Meanwhile, for the first time, customers will be able to schedule appointments on Saturdays. Carson City will remain exempt from this change as it has never offered walk-in services on Saturdays.
“This change will allow customers who’ve been asking for the flexibility of coming in without an appointment during the week to do so,” stated DMV Director Julie Butler. She further noted that this new arrangement provides an opportunity for those with weekday jobs to book Saturday appointments.
Butler highlighted that many routine transactions such as registration renewals can be completed online through the “MyDMV” service at dmv.nv.gov. “Staffing on Saturdays has always been challenging, but the demand for services on our walk-in day is very high,” she said. Serving walk-in customers during a weekday aims to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
“The bulk of transactions we see being handled on Saturdays are often transactions that can be performed online,” Butler explained. For necessary in-person transactions, making an appointment is advised. Walk-In Wednesday should serve as a last resort option.
From July 12 onwards, Wednesdays will not be available for appointments. However, starting July 15, Saturday appointments can be scheduled.
A common occurrence observed by the DMV is early line-ups on walk-in days. Customers sometimes arrive as early as 3 a.m., which Butler advises against due to quieter periods later in the morning and mid-afternoon.
On Walk-In Wednesdays, customers checking in will receive a ticket with a return time and subsequently a call number when their turn arrives at the window.
The Nevada DMV employs an appointment system to manage customer flow at its metropolitan offices in Reno, Carson City, Henderson, and Las Vegas. The department urges individuals seeking metro office services to book appointments early and cancel any unneeded ones promptly.
