The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced that drivers with Classic Vehicle, Old Timer, and Classic Rod license plates now have the option to renew these plates online through the MyDMV portal.

DMV Director Tonya Laney highlighted the significance of this development, noting, “This enhancement is a big milestone for the DMV. With more plates being eligible for online renewals, we are giving our customers what they have requested, opening up more appointments for those who need an in-person visit.”

Despite this new online option, current owners must continue to meet specific insurance coverage requirements according to Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS) 485.185, 482.381, 482.3814, and 482.3816. The statutes stipulate that these vehicles must maintain liability insurance, can only be used for special occasions such as exhibitions and parades, must be manufactured at least 25 years ago, and can only cover a maximum of 5,000 miles annually.

Laney expressed enthusiasm about the new service for classic vehicle owners, stating, “We are excited that our customers with this plate now get the option of online renewals. This is exactly what we are trying to push – people going online versus making a trip to an office.”

Classic vehicle owners interested in these plates can visit dmv.nv.gov for more information.
