The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is taking steps to comply with a recent ruling by the Nevada Supreme Court. The court nullified legislation from 2019 that extended the DMV Technology Fee. In response, the DMV will stop charging this $1 fee once it is removed from their computer system.
As of May 14, the fee was still being collected for nearly all DMV transactions. However, the department aims to cease its collection promptly. Refunds are planned for those who paid the technology fee between July 1, 2020, and when the collection stops. No specific timeline has been set for these refunds.
An update indicates that as of May 18, 2021, the DMV halted collecting this fee during in-person, online, and kiosk transactions. For mail transactions, fees were refunded through August 31, 2021. Starting September 1, mailed transactions with fees began returning to customers.
Motorists are advised to ensure their address information is current with the DMV. Updates can be made online via a MyDMV account at dmvnv.com/mydmv.
