The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has urged residents to renew their driver’s licenses and ID cards promptly upon receiving renewal notices. This reminder aims to help avoid late fees and potential delays in securing appointments.

DMV Director Tonya Laney has observed a significant number of visitors at their offices for transactions, particularly with the Real ID deadline approaching. “We are seeing a large number of Nevadans visiting our office for driver license and ID transactions, especially with the upcoming Real ID deadline,” Laney stated. The appointment system at the DMV combines all license and ID transactions into one category, which could limit availability for those seeking renewal slots.

Renewal notices are issued 30 days before a license or ID’s expiration date. Most drivers can renew via their MyDMV account online unless aged 71 and older, as they must visit an office for an eye exam. “It is greatly important and highly recommended to book an appointment immediately upon notice to renew your license or ID card,” Laney added. The DMV’s limited appointments fill up quickly, so any delay could lead to overdue renewals.

The DMV recommends using electronic notifications for swift updates by enrolling through the MyDMV account under the “My Account” tab. Note that only one notification option can be selected at a time.

Further details about license and ID card renewals are available through the DMV.
