The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has issued a warning to the public regarding scams involving the sale of DMV appointments. According to DMV Director Julie Butler, there have been instances where scammers book appointments and attempt to sell them through platforms like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace.
“Appointment scams haven’t been a huge problem in Nevada but we don’t want anyone to be taken advantage of,” Butler stated. She added that the DMV verifies every customer at the door to ensure they are the same person who booked the appointment.
An incident was reported on April 13 at the North Decatur DMV office where an individual attempted to use a purchased appointment. The person was turned away because the name on their identification did not match the appointment name.
The DMV emphasizes that legitimate appointments can only be made through their official website, dmvnv.com, and there is no charge for this service. Additionally, appointments are non-transferable, even among family members or friends. Customers unable to keep their scheduled appointment are advised to cancel it via the website.
