The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has issued a warning to motorists regarding a speeding ticket scam that has emerged in the state. The scam involves emails that appear to be from the DMV, notifying recipients of alleged traffic violations that require online payment via credit card.
These fraudulent emails demand payment within 72 hours and include links labeled “EasyPay” or options to contest the citation. However, the Nevada DMV clarified that it does not issue traffic citations or collect fines.
Director Julie Butler stated, “It’s unfortunate that these criminals are posing as the DMV to scam innocent people.” She advised recipients not to click on any links in these emails, as scammers aim to steal personal information and potentially infect devices with malware.
