Nevada State honors alumni and partners at annual awards ceremony

Nevada State University recently celebrated the achievements of its alumni and community partners at its Second Annual Awards Ceremony on October 3, 2024. The event recognized individuals and organizations for their contributions to the university and the broader community.

Dr. DeRionne Pollard, president of Nevada State University, stated, “The individuals and organizations we are honoring this year exemplify the spirit of leadership, community engagement, and dedication that drives Nevada State University forward. We are proud to recognize their accomplishments and thank them for their contributions that continue to enrich our community.”

Efren Vega (Class of 2017) and Estefania Sanchez-Vega (Class of 2018) were named Young Alumni of the Year for their professional success and community impact as first-generation immigrants. Brian Hansen (Class of 2012) received the Alumnus of the Year award for his work in the anesthesia field, attributing his career success to Nevada State’s accelerated programs.

The President’s Medal was awarded to MGM Resorts International for its commitment to diversity and positive change in the community. Communities in Schools of Nevada also received this honor for its efforts in supporting high-needs schools.

The Gibson Society recognizes donors who have contributed $750,000 or more to Nevada State University. This year’s inductees include The NV Energy Foundation, acknowledged for its investment in workforce development opportunities, and John and Joy Gombeda, honored for establishing an endowed scholarship for nursing students.

Dr. Pollard concluded by saying, “The dedication of these honorees inspires us to keep pushing boundaries, creating opportunities, and building a community where education transforms lives.”
