Nevada State University announces new advisory council for liberal arts school

Nevada State University’s School of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Business (LASB) has introduced its first External Advisory Council. This council consists of notable leaders from various industries in Southern Nevada. The initiative aims to support LASB’s mission to educate and nurture the region’s diverse workforce while enhancing its community presence.

The council is designed to connect LASB with the broader community by offering guidance, fostering partnerships, and creating opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. Members will advise on networking, experiential learning, mentorship, and fundraising initiatives that align with regional needs.

The inaugural members bring a range of expertise:

– Dr. Bo Bernhard: Vice President of Economic Development at UNLV.
– Malika El Bakkal Lees: Vice President and Community Manager at JP Morgan Chase.
– Zach Bradford: Co-founder and CEO of CleanSpark.
– Leo Murrieta: Executive Director of Make the Road Nevada.
– Grace Njoroge: Education Director at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum.
– Doa Ross: Deputy General Manager of Engineering for the Las Vegas Valley Water District.

Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, Dean of LASB, stated, “Each member…brings unparalleled expertise, passion, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact on Nevada State and our community.”

The council will convene quarterly to provide strategic advice supporting LASB’s programs. Members will also engage in fundraising efforts and experiential learning projects to ensure continued leadership in student preparation for future challenges.
