Nevada State University has launched its SMART Growth Initiative, aiming to expand its campus in line with Nevada’s educational and workforce needs. The initiative was officially introduced on October 24, 2024, gathering developers, business leaders, government officials, and stakeholders.

Dr. DeRionne Pollard, President of Nevada State University, emphasized the university’s pivotal role in education and workforce development: “We know that Nevada State University is the future of higher education in Nevada, and we must intentionally develop our campus to support the vital role we play in educating our community and developing the workforce that our state requires for its continued growth.”

The initiative plans to develop 452 acres of land at the university’s Henderson campus. This effort involves collaboration with private sector partners and regional stakeholders. The master plan updated in 2023 projects a student population increase to 20,000 by 2047. To accommodate this growth, new academic buildings and facilities are planned.

Key insights were shared by representatives from WT Partnership, Nevada State Campus Lands Corporation (NSCLC), City of Henderson, and TSK Architects during the launch event attended by over 160 participants.

Dr. Pollard established NSCLC to guide campus development aligned with academic goals and workforce needs. NSCLC aims to foster public-private collaborations for innovative advancements in procurement and financing.

The initiative aligns with efforts by the City of Henderson and the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada as part of the University Area Livable Centers Study. Approved by Henderson City Council, this study covers a 1400-acre area including Nevada State’s campus.
