Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford has announced a civil lawsuit against MediaLab.AI and its messaging app Kik, alleging the company has endangered young people in Nevada. The lawsuit was filed late last week in the Eighth Judicial District business court.
Ford stated, “Kik’s anonymity feature and low barrier to entry, among other things, harm Nevada’s youth. The company’s actions and false claims of safety also put Nevada’s children in danger. I will not allow companies to neglect their responsibilities to Nevada’s youth, and I will bring any offender that does so to court.”
According to the Attorney General’s office, Kik allows users to create anonymous accounts without providing email addresses, phone numbers or other identification. This lack of requirements, combined with a large user base — at one point reportedly including 40% of American teenagers — has made the platform attractive for child predators and facilitated the spread of illegal material involving minors.
The lawsuit claims that Kik violated the Nevada Deceptive Trade Practices Act and includes allegations of negligence, products liability, and unjust enrichment.
This legal action follows previous lawsuits filed by Ford’s office targeting social media platforms over concerns about youth safety. In June 2025, a similar suit was brought against YouTube as well as Google LLC and Alphabet Inc., its parent companies. Earlier actions were taken in January 2024 against TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger.
