The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) is reviewing the recent Dear Colleague Letter from the U.S. Department of Education to assess its implications for Nevada’s higher education institutions. The system aims to ensure that its colleges and universities continue to support their students, faculty, and staff effectively.
NSHE highlights its commitment to diversity, being a majority-minority system that serves students from various backgrounds. “We have always and will always be committed to ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to achieve their educational goals regardless of their background,” the statement reads.
The organization remains guided by its Strategic Plan: Success by Design, focusing on enhancing access to education, improving student success rates, meeting workforce needs, and serving Nevada’s communities efficiently.
Acknowledging the guidance from the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, NSHE emphasizes its dedication to maintaining safe and inclusive learning environments.
NSHE comprises two doctoral-granting research universities, a state university, four community colleges, and one environmental research institute. It provides educational opportunities to over 100,000 students across institutions such as the University of Nevada in Las Vegas and Reno, among others.
