The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) has officially welcomed four Regents to its Board, with two newly elected and two re-elected members taking their oaths in a ceremony conducted by Judge Jacqueline M. Bluth. The event marks the beginning of their four-year terms on the Board of Regents.

Newly elected Regent Aaron Bautista, representing District 4, is a special education teacher from East Las Vegas. With degrees from the College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State University, and Grand Canyon University, Bautista aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable while enhancing campus safety and inclusivity.

Carlos D. Fernandez, the first Latino immigrant elected to the Nevada Board of Regents for District 1, brings his experience as a former Student Body President at UNLV. Currently serving as Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects’ Las Vegas and Nevada Chapters, Fernandez focuses on expanding access to higher education and aligning it with workforce needs.

Re-elected Regent Amy J. Carvalho from District 12 continues her service after first being elected in 2018. As current Chair of the Board, she draws on her background in business and community service to support students across Nevada’s educational institutions.

Carol Del Carlo from District 9 was also re-elected. A long-time public servant with significant contributions beyond state lines as part of the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT), Del Carlo remains dedicated to improving educational opportunities for Nevadans.

The Board oversees public higher education institutions in Nevada, ensuring that NSHE’s mission aligns with the state’s evolving educational needs.
