On March 5, 2025, the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) was alerted to an injured or sick deer near Lattin Ranch, south of Harrison Pass in Hunt Unit 103, located in the Ruby Mountains south of Elko. The department responded and discovered that the deer had died. A Nevada Game Warden examined the animal and found what appeared to be a bullet wound on its left rear hip/back area.

The investigation revealed that the deceased deer was a pregnant doe, estimated to be between six and seven years old. Tragically, twin fawns she was carrying also perished due to the gunshot wound inflicted on their mother.

According to NDOW’s findings, it is believed that this incident occurred sometime between March 1 and March 3, 2025. NDOW is actively seeking information regarding this incident. They encourage anyone with knowledge about this unlawful killing of three Nevada mule deer to contact them by calling 1-800-992-3030 or using the Tip411 app.
