ZipRecruiter reports that as of January 2025, there are 3,500 job openings in Nevada requiring a bachelor’s degree in business. This indicates a strong demand for such qualifications. A study by Franklin University highlights that individuals with a bachelor’s degree earn about $325,000 more over their lifetime than those with an associate degree.

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) will offer a new Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Applied Business Management starting Fall 2025. The program aims to provide students with associate degrees from any field the opportunity to advance into professional roles by enhancing technical skills and gaining essential business knowledge.

The curriculum is designed to be flexible and accessible, offering online classes to accommodate various schedules. Alumna Aubrielle Lee expressed enthusiasm about the new program: “Continuing my education at Truckee Meadows Community College has been a game-changer,” said Lee. She appreciates the flexibility of online courses which allows her to balance family and work while pursuing her degree.

Amy Williams, Dean of the Business and Social Sciences Division at TMCC, stated, “Northern Nevada’s economy is growing rapidly, increasing demand for skilled leaders across industries like technology, logistics, manufacturing, and hospitality.” She added that the program addresses workforce needs by preparing students for oversight roles.

Earning a bachelor’s degree can significantly improve earning potential and provide opportunities for career advancement. Core principles such as accounting and marketing will be integrated into the curriculum alongside strategic problem-solving skills.

Alumna Makeila Ward sees this program as an affordable opportunity: “TMCC offering this BAS in Applied Business Management is a great opportunity for me because it’s an affordable and versatile degree,” she said. Student Laura Alves also supports the initiative: “I believe a BAS in Applied Business Management is a great new degree to study.”

Research.com reported competitive salaries for Nevada graduates with business degrees; Project Managers earn an average of $80,220 annually while Business Analysts make approximately $75,410.

Williams further commented on the impact of the new degree: “This new degree will contribute to the region’s development by equipping graduates with talents to innovate in their chosen career fields.” She emphasized that the program acts as a career accelerator combining existing skills with business expertise.
