In 2023, the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) announced that 21 companies either relocated to or expanded their operations in the Greater Reno-Sparks area. According to EDAWN, these businesses were responsible for creating a total of 1,288 new jobs last year. The average hourly wage for these positions reached $40, which EDAWN identified as a record high for the region.
Taylor Adams, President and CEO of EDAWN, stated, “This event is really important because it shows the continued strength of the market and our ability to grow in a way that ties sustainability and creates positive economic mobility for the employees of these companies. We extend our sincerest thanks to the leaders of these companies that chose Northern Nevada.”
The list of companies includes a range from technology startups such as Aeon RV and Brokee.IO to manufacturers like Generac and Weber Metals. Other sectors represented include logistics, distribution, aerospace, e-commerce, real estate investment trusts, and medical manufacturing.
Among notable projects is OMEC Medical’s new facility in Reno, which accounts for 500 of the newly created jobs. Other significant investments include Generac’s new technology center in Reno with 100 jobs and Stellar Aviation Group’s expansion at Reno Tahoe International Airport also adding 100 jobs.
The influx includes both relocations from other states—such as California-based TruckX moving its fleet management solutions company—and expansions by existing firms like Monin increasing its presence in Sparks.
EDAWN describes itself as a private/public partnership founded in 1983. Its mission is to recruit new businesses to Western Nevada while supporting existing firms and encouraging startup growth with an aim toward diversifying the local economy.
