The NV Energy Foundation has been instrumental in supporting Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) students through scholarships and the Summer Bridge college-readiness program. This partnership with the TMCC Foundation has benefited numerous students for nearly 20 years.

Since 2012, the foundation’s contributions to the Success First Summer Bridge Program have assisted first-generation, low-income students in transitioning from high school to college. The program provides free classes, academic services, and scholarships to prepare students for their academic journey.

“NV Energy’s support of Summer Bridge is instrumental to this program’s success,” said Gretchen Sawyer, Associate Vice President of the TMCC Foundation. “The NV Energy Foundation’s support for tuition allows students to earn college credits during Summer Bridge, even before starting their college journey.”

Data from TMCC over 15 years indicates that participants of the Summer Bridge Program are more likely to enroll in higher-level courses, attend full-time rather than part-time, and continue at TMCC after their first semester. “The program empowers first-generation college students to thrive academically—while fostering growth at every step,” said Jocelyn Cabrera, a Summer Bridge alumna and program coordinator. “I am very grateful for NV Energy Foundation’s ongoing commitment to student success.”

In addition to supporting Summer Bridge, the NV Energy Foundation awards $5,000 annually in scholarships to five TMCC students pursuing degrees in fields such as accounting, information technology, construction management, environmental sciences, math, or science.

On behalf of many TMCC students who have benefited from NV Energy Foundation’s generous support over the years, gratitude is extended for their belief in student dreams and potential.
