Graphics Extraordinaire 2024 has proven to be a positive experience for Western Nevada College’s Graphic Design Professor Jayna Conkey. With the inclusion of online students in her classes, Conkey has observed that these students exhibit creativity and artistry comparable to their in-person counterparts.
“When we began to offer online courses, I was worried that the quality of the student work would suffer, but this has not been the case,” Conkey stated. “All of the work in this exhibition was created by students in online courses and, as you can see, the quality of the work is exceptional. What pleases me the most is the level of creativity I have found with these online students.”
The Graphics Extraordinaire exhibit is presented by the Capital City Arts Initiative and will remain open to the public until December 5 at the Community Development Building (the Brick), located at 108 E Proctor St., Carson City. The gallery is accessible Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m.
Participating WNC students include Will Acuavera, Analisa Bates, Kaitlyn Insell, Kennadee Irving, Amy Rivinius, MJ Vinson, and Madeline Wilson.
WNC’s Graphic Design program offers both online and in-person courses for Spring 2025. Students have the opportunity to earn their entire degree online.
“Providing online courses has extended our reach and we’ve had students from around the country earn degrees from WNC,” Conkey mentioned.
