The Pahrump Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is set to reopen on Thursday, August 29, following a month-long closure due to an electrical fire and subsequent flooding. The State Fire Marshall’s office conducted a final inspection last Monday, approving the reopening. Due to damage sustained by computers and other equipment, only five out of ten service windows will be operational.

“We are so glad to report that there were no injuries reported and no records were destroyed in either incident,” said Director Tonya Laney. “It was one thing after the next, but we have a great team in Pahrump and Las Vegas who worked hard to accommodate our customers to get them service.”

Customers can now schedule appointments through the DMV’s new appointment system, WaitWell. Walk-in services will also be available.

The building was initially closed on July 26 due to an electrical fire in the attic space above the main entrance. On August 6, a burst water pipe caused flooding that damaged carpets, drywall, and equipment.

“It has certainly been a wild month for the Pahrump office, but we are very pleased to see the light at the end of the tunnel,” Laney added. “I know the drive to Las Vegas was a bit of a hassle for our Pahrump customers and staff, but we appreciate their cooperation and patience as we worked diligently to reopen as quickly as we could.”

While walk-in services will resume at the Pahrump office, customers are encouraged to conduct their business online at dmv.nv.gov whenever possible.
