The U.S. Department of Education has recognized Roger D. Gehring Academy of Science and Technology as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School. This distinction was earned through the nomination by the Nevada Department of Education’s Office of Student and School Supports.

Governor Joe Lombardo expressed his pride in the achievement, stating, “The Roger D. Gehring Academy of Science and Technology has set a remarkable standard for academic excellence in Nevada. I am proud of the dedication and commitment from both students and educators which led to this prestigious award.”

Gehring Academy is among 356 schools nationwide to receive this year’s award. Superintendent of Public Instruction Jhone Ebert extended congratulations to all involved: “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the school community, and the school serves as a shining example nationwide.”

CCSD Interim Superintendent Dr. Brenda Larsen-Mitchell highlighted the school’s educational approach: “Gehring Academy has fully embraced Project-Based Learning and STEM education, providing an avenue for students to engage in real-world problem solving. Congratulations to our educators for setting high standards for students and working to close achievement gaps.”

Principal Sarah Robinson praised her team’s efforts: “Our educators have cultivated a dynamic learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, preparing our students to be future leaders.” She emphasized that embedding STEM education across all subjects has empowered their students.

Gehring Academy was nominated in two categories: exemplary high performing schools and exemplary achievement gap-closing schools. Since its inception over 40 years ago, approximately 9,700 schools have received the National Blue Ribbon School award.

Each year, up to 420 schools are nominated nationwide, with Gehring Academy representing Nevada this year.
