CARSON CITY, Nev. – University Way over Interstate 80 in downtown Reno will be temporarily closed and reconfigured beginning July 8 as the Nevada Department of Transportation resurfaces interstate ramps and sections of University Way.
UNIVERSITY WAY CLOSED FOR REPAVING
Monday, July 8 at 10 a.m. through July 18
• University Way will be closed over I-80 (between Maple and West 8th Street) 24/7 from Monday, July 8 at 10 a.m. through July 18 for resurfacing.
• Nearby detours will be available, including eastbound I-80 to Wells Avenue and westbound I-80 to return to northern University Way.
• Construction schedule is subject to change.
UNIVERSITY WAY RECONFIGURED INTO ONE-WAY
Beginning July 18
• Upon reopening on July 18, University Way will be permanently reconfigured to a one-way northbound street over I-80 (between Maple and West 8th Street).
• The one-way configuration will more effectively accommodate increased traffic associated with university expansion in the area.
• Drivers are advised to anticipate new traffic patterns and to travel safely in the area.
RAMP CLOSURES FOR REPAVING
Intermittent overnight I-80 Virginia Street ramp closures July 10-Aug.1
• Drivers can also anticipate periodic overnight closures of Maple Street and the I-80 eastbound on-ramp from University Way (Center Street), as well as the I-80 westbound on and off-ramp to Virginia/Sierra Street from July 10-Aug.1 between 9 p.m.-5 a.m.
• I-80 will remain open and drivers will still be able to travel I-80 in the area.
• Nearby detours will be available during overnight ramp closures.
NDOT is removing the aging ramp surfaces and repaving all four I-80 ramps to Virginia Street/downtown Reno, as well as resurfacing University Way over I-80 for a smoother, safer driving surface.
