Traffic lanes on Interstate 580 south of Reno will be reduced from July 15 to 18 for routine bridge inspections conducted by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).
Single lane closures are scheduled approximately three miles south of the Mt. Rose Highway intersection daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during this period for inspection of the Galena Creek Bridge. Southbound lane closures will occur on Monday and Tuesday, followed by northbound lane reductions on Wednesday and Thursday.
Speed limits in the affected area will be reduced to 55 mph, and drivers should anticipate moderate travel delays. Motorists are advised to allocate extra travel time. The work schedule is subject to change.
Limited lane reductions were implemented during the week of July 8 for inspection of the I-580 Parker Ranch Road and St. James Parkway bridges just north of Washoe Valley.
These lane reductions are part of federally-mandated biennial inspections. Opened in 2012, the bridges have consistently ranked in good condition through these routine inspections.
NDOT inspects most Nevada bridges every two years, including those maintained by cities and counties. Bridges with more extensive deterioration undergo more frequent inspections, while some newer structures are inspected every four years. NDOT’s dedicated bridge inspection and rehabilitation program has contributed to Nevada bridges being named the nation’s best for eight consecutive years.
