Western Nevada College (WNC) hosted an event titled "Bridges of Support" on October 17, 2024, at its Carson City campus. The initiative aimed to deepen the understanding of veterans' experiences as they transition to civilian life and to enhance empathy and support for them within the college community.
The event featured Vet Smart Training sessions led by Felipe Gutierrez and Alixe Bunyard from Truckee Meadows Community College’s Veterans Services. Additionally, a panel discussion was held with student veterans Rich Tidrick, Trent Whitney, and Michael Robinson sharing their experiences at WNC.
A separate panel consisting of WNC faculty and staff members Susan Trist, Matt Anderson, and Lauren Slemenda Moore focused on discussing best classroom practices for supporting veteran students.
