CSN's Charleston campus recently hosted Campus Children’s Centers Week, featuring a series of activities designed to engage young children and their families. The event began with the "Chalk Walk to the Clock," where participants, including CSN Security, walked to the campus Clock Tower. The area was adorned with colorful chalk drawings created by the children.
The children continued their exploration across campus, visiting various departments. They stopped at the Student Union and the Math Department in the H Building, where some of their parents work as faculty members. They also visited a math class in Building D and toured CSN’s Dental Program in the A Building.
Storytime sessions were held with guest readers such as Maddie Williams from CSN Security, who read “The Lion and the Mouse,” Denise Sydney from the Education Department with “Noodles and the No Bones Day,” and Anna Becker from the Biology Department, who read The Three Little Pigs in both French and English. Over 20 parents participated by sharing stories.
Mary Regan, Director for the Early Childhood Education Lab, commented on the event: “We were thrilled to have so much participation from our families. This week wasn’t just about fun; it was about showing these little ones that learning is all around them—whether they’re drawing with chalk, hearing a story, or watching a college class in action.”
Campus Children’s Centers Week aligned with CSN’s mission to "Achieve, Succeed, Prosper." By experiencing different aspects of campus life, preschoolers were introduced to higher education early on.
