The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Nevada Department of Administration have commenced construction on a new DMV Services Center in Northern Nevada. The groundbreaking event took place on Wednesday, with Governor Brian Sandoval noting the significant growth in the Reno-Sparks area since the Galletti Way DMV Office opened.

Governor Sandoval stated, “Once complete, this one-stop service facility will dramatically improve the customer experience. With more parking – for both customers and employees – as well as more service windows, we are aiming to reduce wait times and make visits to the Reno DMV as painless as possible.”

Located near Sandhill Road and Double Diamond Parkway, the new facility will replace two existing offices in Reno: the main office on Galletti Way and a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) location on Greg Street. The design is modeled after the Sahara DMV location in Las Vegas, which began operations in December 2016.

Ward Patrick, State Public Works Division Administrator, commented, "We believe the Reno community will greatly appreciate the functionality and efficiency this new building will bring to the DMV experience." He added that H+K Architects and CORE Construction aim to create a building focused on optimal customer service.

Currently operating from Galletti Way since 1979 under a lease from the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), the DMV also runs a CDL facility in Sparks. The new center will merge these locations into one streamlined service hub with significantly increased parking capacity between 450 and 500 spaces compared to current facilities.

Spanning over 54,000 square feet, features of the new site include an Emissions Lab and a full-service CDL facility. It will also introduce a Drive Up Express DMV Kiosk, described by DMV Director Terri L. Albertson as “a symbol of all that we need: a way to better serve our community.” She emphasized its role in keeping customers mobile while meeting evolving needs.

The new center is expected to open after Nevada Day weekend in 2020.
