The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has ended its contract with Tech Mahindra, the company tasked with upgrading the department's outdated computer system. The contract, initiated in April 2016, was terminated due to unspecified concerns.
DMV Director Terri Albertson commented on the decision: “Due to a number of varying concerns, we have determined it is best to part ways.” Despite this setback, Albertson assured that efforts towards modernization would continue. “Without this upgrade, our ability to serve Nevadans will always be limited,” she stated.
The initial contract followed legislative approval for a $114 million system upgrade during the 2015 Legislative Session. This funding covered both hardware and software development costs and was primarily sourced from a $1 "technology fee" imposed on all DMV transactions. Tech Mahindra had been chosen through a formal procurement process as required by state law.
Albertson emphasized that although details are still being resolved, the objective of improving service delivery remains unchanged. She added, “We will spend the next few days and weeks winding up affairs and assessing our options for the future.”
