The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced the permanent closure of its office on Galletti Way in Reno, effective October 23. This transition will result in no DMV services being available in Reno from October 26 to October 30, as operations move to a new facility located in south Reno.
Julie Butler, the DMV Director, urged residents to make use of online services during this period. "We would like to ask everyone to utilize our online services and not drive to other DMV locations," she stated. Online options for renewing driver’s licenses and IDs are already proving popular, with over 12,000 people having renewed this way in under two weeks. Additional services such as registration renewals, personalized plate ordering, address changes, movement permits, and access to driver history are also available at dmvnv.com.
"We plan on adding more online services in the future to make things easier for our customers," Butler added.
The new facility at 9155 Double Diamond Parkway is set to open on November 2. It will feature three kiosks outside aimed at speeding up customer service, including what is touted as the first drive-through kiosk nationwide. The building spans 42,000 square feet and includes a separate emissions/commercial driver license (CDL) facility. Parking capacity will increase significantly from 120 spaces to 550, while customer service windows will rise from 36 to 53.
Appointments scheduled for November 2 or later have been automatically transferred to the new location. Customers unable to attend their appointments are encouraged to cancel them accordingly.
In addition, the CDL and Motor Carrier offices located at 810 Greg St. in Sparks will close permanently on October 16 before reopening at the new site on October 19. These services will be housed separately within the property at an address of 890 Trademark Dr.
