The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced a new option for applicants seeking instruction permits or non-commercial Class C driver licenses. These individuals can now take their written driving test online via the DMV's website, dmv.nv.gov.

This initiative is facilitated by Intellectual Technology, Inc. (ITI), which manages the testing platform. Applicants are required to create an account and verify their identity before taking the basic Class C knowledge tests from their home computers. Currently, touchscreen devices like tablets or mobile phones are not supported.

"This is only the latest example of the transformation that's reshaping the way the DMV does business," said DMV Director Julie Butler. "Giving Nevadans the ability to take their written test at home is convenient, reduces the need for at-window services, and gives aspiring drivers more opportunities to take and pass their written test."

The online testing service is provided through KnowToDrive Online, ITI’s remote testing platform. "We feel very confident in ITI’s virtual testing environment," Butler added. "The rules are very fair, and the pass/fail rates are nearly identical to in-office testing."

Applicants can use any computer equipped with a front-facing camera or camera peripheral to complete their tests in English or Spanish. The system provides immediate scores upon completion and further instructions for successful candidates.

The cost of taking this online test is $6.75 per attempt, with a limit of one test per day and a 60-minute time restriction. Once taken online, it cannot be retaken in person on the same day.
