The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has announced that it will not be able to issue driver licenses or learner permits on Saturday, February 25. This disruption is due to a planned Verizon network outage affecting the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS). The outage will impact all DMV offices in Nevada.

The PDPS is a system that the DMV must access by law before issuing driver's licenses. Therefore, during the outage, the DMV will be unable to provide new licenses.

Customers are advised to schedule appointments for licensing services during weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Alternatively, they can visit their local DMV Field Services Office on another Saturday for walk-in services. Appointments can be made through the website dmv.nv.gov/appointments.htm.

Verizon provides telecommunication services to the Nevada DMV through the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). AAMVA is a nonprofit organization that creates model programs in motor vehicle administration and acts as an information clearinghouse in these areas.
