Nearly all exams required by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) for licensure as a professional engineer or professional land surveyor are now exclusively available as computer-based tests. The only exception to this change is the NCEES 16-hour Structural Engineering Exam, which will continue to be administered in a paper-and-pencil format until October 2023.
Prospective examinees can register for these computer-based tests through NCEES, with registration having opened in November. Once registered, candidates can secure their testing slots at Pearson VUE test centers.
A notable feature of the registration process is that candidates do not need to reside in Nevada to select it as their exam state. "You are not required to seek licensure in Nevada," states NCEES. Candidates also do not need pre-approval before registering for the exam. Upon registration, they can choose any convenient exam location, including sites outside Nevada.
The majority of NCEES exams are offered throughout the year; however, individuals are limited to taking an exam once per quarter and no more than three times within a 12-month period.
