Jeffrey Wyatt, a field services technician with the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Nevada, has been honored as the Employee Veteran of the Month. This award acknowledges his significant contributions and achievements within the state.

Wyatt, who served as a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, joined the DMV in May 2021. In just over a year, he has become an essential part of the team, especially during its transition to online services.

“Jeff takes the initiative daily,” stated Samantha Perez, Wyatt’s former supervisor at the Reno DMV office. She highlighted his effort to redesign AAA fliers for better customer usability and his ability to propose more efficient office practices.

Perez also commended Wyatt for his positive demeanor and adaptability to new challenges. She noted his readiness to train new technicians and assist with license plate applications. “Whether it’s a customer who is new to our state and not sure of how things work or a co-worker who needs help with some plate questions, he is always there to help,” she added.

Wyatt's military career began with Marine Corps combat training at Camp Pendleton in California in August 2003. He became an Information Systems Specialist and Tactical Data Networking Specialist by January 2004 after being stationed at Twentynine Palms, California.

He spent two years overseas with the 3rd Transportation Support Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, participating in tsunami relief efforts and joint task force training at Camp Fuji. Later, he moved to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in Arizona to support Border Patrol improvement initiatives with the 3rd Marine Air Wing.

Wyatt concluded his active duty service in 2007 but returned for Operation Enduring Freedom until June 2009 when he retired as a sergeant from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His military accolades include a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Medal, and Expert Rifleman Badge.

The Nevada DMV supports military personnel through vehicle tax exemptions for their service and offers various military and veteran license plates for them and their families.

The Employee Veteran of the Month award was initiated in January 2021 by the Nevada Department of Administration Director alongside the Administrator of the Division of Human Resource Management.
