Mark Fakler, PE, recently took on the role of Executive Director with a background of 32 years in professional civil engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Geological Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
Fakler expressed enthusiasm for his new position, stating, "I enjoy working with a great group of people and I also enjoy using my experience to help safeguard the welfare of the public." He appreciates collaborating with professionals who are dedicated to advancing their field and assisting newcomers in launching their careers.
Discussing the Board's mission, Fakler emphasized, "Our first priority is to safeguard life, health and property and to promote public welfare. We start every board meeting by reading our purpose and mission."
Fakler pursued the executive director role to leverage his expertise in furthering professional goals while ensuring public protection. On professional licensure, he noted its importance for engineers and land surveyors: "It is a pledge and a commitment that we make to the public and our profession."
Throughout his career, Fakler has worked on numerous projects where collaboration was key. "What I liked best about all of these projects was the collaboration and teamwork that went into every successful project," he shared.
Outside work, Fakler enjoys spending time with family and friends engaging in activities available in Las Vegas and Reno. As an outdoor enthusiast, he participates in hiking, fishing, hunting, and skiing.
