Mark Fakler, PE, recently took on the role of Executive Director with a wealth of experience spanning 32 years in civil engineering. With a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Geological Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, Fakler brings extensive knowledge to his new position.
Reflecting on his short time as Executive Director, Fakler expressed appreciation for "working with a great group of people" and using his expertise to safeguard public welfare. He emphasized that the board's main priority is "to safeguard life, health and property and to promote public welfare," highlighting that each board meeting begins by reading their purpose and mission.
Fakler pursued the executive director position to leverage his skills in advancing professional goals while protecting the public. On professional licensure, he stated it is "a pledge and a commitment" engineers should pursue, viewing it as both an honor and responsibility.
Throughout his career, Fakler has been involved in numerous projects where collaboration was key. Outside work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends while engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, hunting, and skiing around Las Vegas and Reno.
