The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is advising residents to avoid visiting DMV offices immediately after the Thanksgiving holiday due to expected high volumes. Offices will be closed from November 22 to 25, with the Monday following Thanksgiving anticipated as the busiest day of the year.
"The holidays are hectic enough without spending time in a crowded office," said DMV Director Terri Albertson. "Most transactions can be carried out online or at a kiosk. If you do have to come in Monday or Tuesday, be prepared for some significant wait times. If you can wait a few extra days, you should visit our website and make the first available appointment."
The DMV provides numerous services online and through self-service kiosks located at 30 supermarkets and other partner locations across Nevada. Residents in Carson City, Las Vegas, and Reno can also schedule appointments via the DMV website at dmvnv.com/dashpass.
The department encourages individuals to explore its website for available options before visiting an office. The website address is www.dmvnv.com.
Online services include address changes, registration renewals, and driver history printouts. Additionally, motorists can register newly-purchased vehicles online.
"If you buy a car from a Nevada dealer during the holidays, skip the trip to the DMV and register it online," Albertson advised.
