The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has introduced three new specialty license plates aimed at supporting charitable organizations. These plates are now available for purchase at DMV offices and through the Online Vehicle Registration and Personalized Plate Order services on the department's website.
One of the new designs, the Friends of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department plate, features a badge against a dark background with the tagline "Supporting our Heroes." Proceeds from this plate will benefit the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation, which provides officers with equipment, training, and community engagement programs.
Another design is dedicated to Opportunity Village, showcasing a multicolored heart along with the organization’s “Love” logo. Funds raised will support Opportunity Village programs in Las Vegas that assist individuals with intellectual disabilities.
The third design supports education. The Public Education Foundation plate displays children standing on books with the slogan “Driving Education.” Revenue generated will be divided between local school districts across Nevada and various initiatives by The Public Education Foundation, including funding for classroom supplies, college scholarships, and other educational programs.
Motorists who have purchased vehicles from Nevada dealers can utilize DMV's Online Vehicle Registration to register without visiting an office. This service has been expanded to include additional charitable plates this week, increasing available styles to 26. Plans are underway to make all unrestricted charitable plates accessible online next month.
Since 1998, specialty license plates have raised over $88 million for Nevada charities. As of June 30, 2021, there were 358,920 active charitable plates in circulation.
